Jerry Jones threatened Roger Goodell using foul language after Ezekiel Elliott suspension, report says

As the battle between Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell continues to play out, it appears Jones promised to get back at Goodell following the announcement of Ezekiel Elliott’s six-game suspension in August.

“Jerry’s message to Roger was ‘I run this league. You better get with it,’” a senior league executive told ESPN. “This is about power and control, not the contract. That’s all white noise.”

Jones’ comments surface after the Cowboys owner clarified that the main reason behind his potential lawsuit against the NFL is that all 32 owners are not involved with decisions surrounding the commissioner’s contract. Jones said legal action would not be because of how Elliott’s domestic violence investigation has been handled by the league, calling the two “separate issues.”

“I’ve been impressed with the maturity from Nathan Peterman,” McDermott said. “I’m comfortable making a calculated risk to try and get us where we need to go.”

Peterman came off the bench to replace starter Tyrod Taylor late in Sunday’s 47-10 loss to the Saints, completing 7 of 10 passes for 76 yards and his first touchdown pass, to tight end Nick O’Leary, in Peterman’s only regular-season action to date.

“We are in the playoff hunt and we are always focused on becoming the best team possible. We were made for better than 5-4,” McDermott said in reversing his assertion after Sunday’s loss that Taylor would remain the starter.

Peterman’s entry into the game Sunday was greeted by a roar of approval from the New Era Field crowd.
